An individual welt usually disappears within 24 hours, while new ones may appear elsewhere. Episodes continuing for six weeks or longer are assessed as chronic urticaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is it urgent?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hives do not always indicate a food allergy. Management follows the history and examination.
