Are active acne and acne scars the same?

Active acne can include blackheads, whiteheads, inflamed bumps and deep nodules. Flat red or brown marks left afterwards differ from indented scars. This distinction matters: treatment that controls active acne is different from a procedure aimed at improving a scar with tissue loss. [1]

Why plan active acne control first?

New lesions can lead to new scars. Assessment therefore considers acne severity, duration, distribution and tendency to scar, followed by appropriate medicines and skin care. A 2025 clinical study by Dr. Gül Şekerlisoy Tatar and Dr. Fatma Etgü examined factors associated with acne severity and scarring and emphasized timely, individualized care. [2]

How does Morpheus8 work?

Morpheus8 delivers radiofrequency energy to the skin through microneedles. For suitable acne scars it may be planned to support tissue remodelling and soften the appearance of depressions. Depth and energy are matched to the site and tissue. The procedure does not replace medicines needed for active acne. [3,4]

Does every scar need the same procedure?

Scars may be broad, narrow, deep or tethered. Assessment considers scar type, skin colour, current acne and previous treatment. Radiofrequency microneedling, peels or other scar-specific methods may be used alone or in stages. The aim is meaningful individual improvement; complete removal of every scar is not promised.

How do treatment and aftercare proceed?

After suitable anaesthesia, the planned areas are treated with a sterile single-use tip. Postpone makeup, strenuous exercise, saunas and very hot showers for the first 48 hours. Follow individual instructions for washing and restarting products, avoid rubbing or picking and protect the skin from sunlight. Report increasing pain, blisters or spreading redness promptly.

Our approach

Acne, rosacea and skin rejuvenation are particular interests of Dr. Gül Şekerlisoy Tatar. We diagnose and treat acne, assess scars and plan suitable procedures individually. Sessions and reviews are adjusted to scar characteristics and the skin’s response.
