When does picking become a concern?
Repeated skin picking can cause wounds, scars, distress and daily difficulties. Occasionally touching a lesion does not by itself mean skin-picking disorder. Assessment considers frequency and the effect on daily life.
Coordinated care
Skin lesions and triggers such as itch are assessed dermatologically. Mental-health specialists may be involved when appropriate. Cognitive behavioural approaches and habit-reversal training can form part of treatment.
