What is rosacea?

Rosacea can cause recurrent flushing, persistent facial redness, visible vessels and, in some people, acne-like bumps. Burning, stinging and sensitivity may occur. Facial redness has other causes too; symptoms and dermatological examination guide diagnosis. Mention eye redness, dryness or irritation as well. [1]

What does BBL target?

BBL means BroadBand Light, an IPL system using filtered broadband light. It may be considered particularly for persistent redness and visible superficial vessels. Light treatment does not address every rosacea symptom in the same way. Inflamed bumps or marked sensitivity may also need medicines and skin care. [1,2]

How is suitability assessed?

Assessment considers skin type, tanning, the distribution of redness, visible vessels, medicines and previous procedures. The treatment area and settings are selected individually. Sessions and intervals depend on the initial findings and response at review. We diagnose and medically treat rosacea and assess suitability for BBL with follow-up.

What happens at treatment?

The skin is cleansed and suitable eye protection is provided. Light pulses are delivered with the selected filter and settings; brief warmth or a snapping sensation may occur. Afterwards, moisturizer and sun-protection advice are tailored to the skin. A review is arranged for the treated area and your circumstances.

What care is needed before and after BBL?

Mention recent sun exposure, tanning beds, medicines and active skin products. Afterwards, protect the skin from sunlight and use a gentle cleanser and the recommended moisturizer. Postpone intense heat, saunas and strenuous exercise for the first 24–48 hours. Track personal flare triggers and restart products according to your care plan.

Will all redness disappear?

The aim is to reduce redness and visible vessels and support skin comfort. Results vary, and skin care and follow-up continue because rosacea can flare again. For suitable patients, BBL is one component of an individual treatment plan.
